bill became a killer whale yesterday
We had a sloooooooow morning on the digs--Bob managed a stooling black over the rig-Broke a wing, so when Bill, my nine year old lab went out for his first retrieve in a while, it gave him a merry chase---After a minute of starts, stops, dives and turns, the duck was safely in his mouth and brought back to the blind.
The second, and last was a mallard drake, again stooling into the death hole--I sent him , and this time, he picked up the bird and, in the manner of an orca hitting a seal, launched it into the air, shook off, and barely missed catching it on the downward trip-After Bob and got over our giggles, i took the bird from him.
This season, i think even he has felt the pangs of boredom, and devised some creative ways to entertain himself, and us, during retrieves. This dog is, from observations, left pawed, which i assume makes him right brained---I have come to this conclusion from watching him in a relaxed position left paw crossed over right---Check your own buds, and see whether they show this left pawed trait, also. All of my others have been basically right pawed, well, except for Coot, the white one, who would sit in a corner when he was bad, liked clamming on his own when brant were slo: dog would locate, dig up, and bring clams to me and partners, honest!!, and had some of the similar creative traits bill shows.
Hope your gunning picks up now that we are in a new year.

That's great George.
My lab also clams.
I have her bring the clams back to the boat and drop them in a bucket.

sprig returned today
After we finished, i took him on a walkabout for a wingshot who scooted in the wind while Bill was working two other downed birds.=
About 200 yards from the island where we last saw him, i sent Bill on a line to the island---He casted around, and as my partner observed, since he did not accompany us, " I knew when he winded the duck because his head snapped around." That was all she wrote for a pretty nice drake smiley, who had the bad luck of coming in with a group of sprig! All retrieved! Nice windy day, and we think there may have been an influx of new stuff. YAY!!!!!!
