Patterns

Post  Scott Salzer on Fri Jan 27, 2012 10:36 pm

I'd like to give carving a shot. Does anyone know where I can get my hands on some patterns to lay out the shapes of the ducks on the wood? Thanks in advance-Scott

Scott, the best place to start is with the carving kit that Willy offers at the Duck Blind.

http://www.theduckblind.com/

You can e-mail him about it, but I think it is a Canvasback cork cutout, Canvasback pattern, glass eyes and all the tools you need to get started.

Scott, Davey is correct start with the The duck blind. Willy is great if I were you I would get the videos unless you have someone that is going to instruct you. As far as patterns are concerned once you complete "the kits" I would get Pat Godin's pattern books they are very nice and are the basis to Willy's patterns, hope that helps, be happy to assist with getting started as I started about a year ago myself very addictive!

Scott, first, where do you live?

I am sure if we knew that, someone here could steer you toward a possible mentor..I have a pile of patterns of my own doing, but they are all oversized, basically for cork bodies with wood heads. If you are ever in delaware, i would be glad to share stuff with you, even provide you with a demo, if you think it will halp--keep in mind, this is rather addictive.

This has the potential of being a very good deal just picked up all 3 of these books for a shade less which I consider a steal. Vol 3 is Out of Print and I have seen it go for almost $300 by itself

I am from north Jersey. I was hoping someone was willing to copy one of theirs for me to get me started. I have no problem buying books when and if I decide it is something I'd be willing to commit myself to. I can't forsee myself being in Delaware any time soon George, but thank you very much for the offer!

Scott, I live in Robbinsville NJ, if you want I can hook you up with a cedar cutout and a pattern or two. Shoot me a PM.
