I am a new carver and feel as if I'm struggling with my heads. This is one I did today for a mallard out of white cedar. It does need a little sanding still, but please let me know what I still need to improve upon. Thanks in advance-Scott

Nothing wrong with that Scott. I assume you'll round the lower neck when its attached to the decoy. Other than that, you're makig progess, the only way to get better is to keep carving them.

Yes, I dont do much with the neck until I attach it to the body. I finally feel as if I got one to look decent.. It was a struggle the whole way though. I guess it will get easier as I get more experience.

IMO the cheek is too pronunced between the neck and the back of the head and near the bill the cheek is too flat. overall nice job for a newbie!!

I feel like my cheeks are too exaggerated also. It seems to happen when I try to make them round. I remove wood from all around them so they are not flat and that's how they turn out. I don't get it...

The cheek looks boney...just leave some meat there. Lol

Taper the center of the cheek to the back of the head, rather than such a defined line.
