decoy spreads? Empty decoy spreads?

What do you jersey guys use in your decoy spread when hunting coastal creeks? Last year I used 6black ducks 4mallards. Then later in the season I would add some pinnies off to one side. This seemed to work ok for the crap season we had last year. What are you guys using and how many? Thanks for your help.

Chris up here I hunt the Hudson River, most of my spots are where feeder creeks come into the river. I will toss out abot 8 mallard, 5 drake the rest hens, a couple of wood duck drakes with a hen and about 3 or 4 goose dekes. If its low tide I will put a few at the water line also. It seems the last couple of years fewer has worked better than more. If I decide to hunt the "river" then its a boat load of dekes. Good luck on your hunts this season.

Mimic what you see with the live birds. Early season I typically have just a few blacks, a mallard pair and some teal. Late in the season, I;ll boost up the number of black ducks and add some more color to the spread, Pinnies, Shovelers etc.

Im always hunting open water, usually top of the barnegot ill usually throw 2-4 doz canada's, 3-5 doz puddlers (mostly mallards and blacks) and later in the season add 3-5 doz divers (mostly broadbills, some buffleheads) so, almost always useat least 4-5 doz blocks at any one time, and amost always have 2+ boats in the party depending on the day. i have several large blinds scattered about the area with names like "the bunker" or "the condo" (because its on stilts in tall reeds)most will comfortably hunt 4-5+dogs and the fleet has anything from18ft garveys, to several smaller garveys, aluminum V's, 2-3 sneaks, 2-3 layouts+ whatever the new flavor of the season. At any time its not uncommon to spread over a large area with blinds or blind/layouts near either end. were mostly all school buddies who have all been together and collecting/expanding for some 25+ years.
