EARLY GOOSE SEASON
With the season just around the corner, how do most of you perfer to hunt them? Do you hunt field or water? I have several fields I can hunt and they have been good producers for the quick sure hunt. But the last few years I have leaned more towards hunting the river. I think the reason is if you limit or get tire of the spot you can opt out for a new location. Where I hunt the river I have about 3 solid spots and several more depend spots on the conditions. Also once I fet tired of the hunt is scout for early duck season. Just lets me be a little more flexible. Also keeps me away from the "honey do" list longer.

I don't really hunt the early season goose. I may take a trip on the river, but I use that as a chance to work with the dog.
Re: EARLY GOOSE SEASON
Around here, your best option is to hunt the fields. A lot of the "local" geese are roosting in park ponds or close to houses on the river and lakes. So to be able to get to them, you have to get them when they fly out to feed. I do have a few places that I hunt the water, but the geese learn quick. Once you hunt it a time or to, they relocate. Last season was tough, I never got into a field in September. August was so wet, that the farmers could cut their fields until the end of September or beginning of October. I've got a few places lined up for this season, as long as the geese stay in the same area for the next coupl weeks. Good luck!

Davey when my lab was still alive I use to do the same. I had him cremated and he has his ashes at my 3 favorite spots on the river with him. So its kind of hunting with him still.
Kevin I hear you about the fields. Our problem where I live is so close to NYC that the citydoits come up and ruin some good hunting areas and you loose the prilivege to hunt there any more.

Re: EARLY GOOSE SEASON
Most of the goose fields in Virginia are hunted by deer clubs thus our golf courses are coverted in goose crap. My alternative to the September goose is dove and when conditions are right I chase Rail. Any rail hunters out there?

where ever
This year the silage will come out early(maybe). I try to hunt early season hard. I can get more time off work. I have some ponds and hay fields also.
I always try to find a new way to take them. One year I got them in double crop beans.
