Boat Blind Pics
Ryan,
I created a scissor style blind on my sneakboat. Basically, it is in two parts. The waterproof lower part that rises about 24" from the deck (which is really nice for running through choppy water and staying mostly dry. The upper part is a quick-drop style blind hinged midway at the top of the waterproof lower blind. I used 1X2" poplar with stainless hinges and it fits into the grassing straps already existing on the lower portion of the blind. The pictures explain a little better than I can in words. I used a ghillie blanket as the basis for camo to add bulk and generally grass it up with whatever I find where I am hunting. Having the ghillie lets me cutdown on grassing-up time and concentrate on getting that cup of coffee before legal shooting time. Also, I tie-down the portion of the blind I am facing away from so I won't accidentally "spring" the blind before I need it. I use clothes line clips to clip the front and back blind together and when I am ready to shoot all I need to do is just push a little on the blind and it lays down. I don't even have to stand to shoot out of it. Hope this helps.

I am also re-building a Broadbill in the offseason and will welcome any ideas.
Russell, Great looking blind. I like your idea on the fold away portion of the blind. Any chance that you have close up photos of the hinge area?

Fold Away Blind Pictures
Ray,
I can get you some pics of the fold away blind tomorrow. FYI, the whole blind collapses and stores in the sneakbox as the very top of the wooden folding blind has a singlebolt with Wingnut and washer. The blind cover, if you want one is rolled down and tied to the grassing rails on the deck for travel. The strength of the sneakbox is the layout capabilities and its seaworthieness but I can hunt two people out of my boat sitting on a bench seat set lengthwise in on the cockpit. It is pretty comfortable.

Re: broadbill boat blind?
I think the broadbill may be better suited for the type of blind that Russell posted. Thats a nice setup. I believe the broadbill is a bit too big and open for a sneakbox style dodger, although I should get up and take a pic of my buddy Kurt's modified sunfish. He built a custom blind on that thing that is like a combination sneakbox dodger and layout blind. It's badass.
Re: broadbill boat blind?
Dave my buddy Jim just did a sunfish as well but i havent seen the outcome of it are they a poplar boat to covert to a sneakbox and how much hp do you think they can handle cuz he was askin wut i thought about it ... but my opinion is .... MAMA I WANNA GO FAST !!! lol

John, my buddy runs a 9.9 Merc 2 stroke on his sunfish conversion and that thing is fast as shit. I swear to God he does 25mph on the water with 9.9!! The Sunfish makes a FAST, LIGHTWEIGHT and STABLE duck boat.

Re: broadbill boat blind?
I was thinking of doing a pop up style blind with bimini hindges with a conduit frame or copper frame( cause i am a plumber with alot of 3/4 copper laying around) with either a plywood center or just do plastic deer fencing in the center. do you other guys with broadbills sit on a seat or right on the floor? i want to keep the blind as low as I can, but also want to be able to sit in it all day.

Broadbill Blind
Ryan,
If you are talking about making the sides with plywood I would think about two things. One is the the blind being top-heavy and safety. The other is that if the sides of the blind are a fixed height (enough to conceal up to your head) then you will have to stand up to shoot which again makes the boat top-heavy and unstable. I tried this the first time on my boat and quickly realized that to hide myself and not have to stand up to shoot I needed a blind that would "drop" when shooting time came. Your idea of conduit with deer fenceing fixed to it is good and you can weave in grass or whatever material you use.

Progress Made
With a couple nice days up here in the great white north, I have been able to work on my blind ideas a little. I used the framework from a ground blind that the material had worn out on and a couple pieces of bimini hardware I had laying around. The only cost so far has been the two lengths of conduit running bow to stern. (5.12)
The way I designed this, I can use it with the front dodger up alone or I can pin up the sides and rear with 4 pins. The rear mount used the existing holes in the deck. In theory, the sides will roll down and attach to grass rails while not in use and the rear section folds, rolls and will be easily stored in the boat
The height and width are not set in stone yet. The pictures are a little deceiving, making the blind look much bigger than it really is. Currently the height is about 24" from the deck and the cockpit opening is approx 24" by 70". I need to get inside the boat and figure out the best minimum height and width.
What is the height on the dodger on your BBSB and sneak boats? Any other thoughts for improvement?

Good Start
Ray,
Thats a nice start to a good looking blind. I built my blind (the bottom portion) before I realized just how exposed my head and shoulders would be for dabblers. It is fine for divers and sea ducks but I needed a little extra hight for the more picky ducks. It would be pretty easy to sew up a pvc backed canvas to mount to that frame. Add in some grassing straps and you will have a nice and versitile blind. If it is a pretty "dry ride" on your boat, you might even get away with just using some netting with woven grass into it.

What kind of material do you use for your blind and where do you get the aluminun tub and end connectors

Re: broadbill boat blind?
Yes I have run her before but very limited. She did well and passed her tests at Started but I haven't taken her any farther. You won't find many tollers at field trials. If you are interested in one I can PM you her breeders contact info.

I was just wondering. My club is being possibly being rented by a Tollers group to do a hunt test. John
