I'd forward the pictures to John Frank @ Frank and Frank decoys. He should be able to give you a good idea who made it.

I know PJ very well and this is definitely a Barnegat decoy. I posted this pic on the decoy carving forum too.

Yeah, it's definitely a Barnegat style bird, both my grandfather, and Chip were/are head of the Bay guys and only really collected those who carved in that area.

Re: Unknown Carver/Goose Decoy
PJ, here are some of the comments I got from decoy carvers Jim D., Rick Brown and Geoff Vine about this goose -
certainly New Jersey, and the Barnegat area.
I don't know this maker's style and don't think I've ever seen it. Two things strike me as different from the "standard" NJ goose..
1. The upraised angle of the bill. Most Jersey Geese have the bill at a noticeable down angle.
2. The location of the joint. The common form is with the joint at the horizontal mid-point of the body.
Neither of those 2 characteristics are so definitive as to be meaningful.. people made what they made and used what material they had at hand... but I'd consider them when looking for other birds by that maker.
The head looks a bit like a Cooper Predmore but the body style is wrong, not original paint though. Looks like a more recent "aged" paint job. Probably done in the past 10-20 years.
Certainly not from one of the prolific Jersey carvers. Never seen one like it. Looks like a one off attempt at the coastal style.

Re: Unknown Carver/Goose Decoy
All of the above could be right except the re-paint age estimation. It is a re-paint, except I'm 34 years old, and watched this goose collect dust for 34 years.
Not that it gets us anywhere, I would think Rick. B. would have had the best idea. who knows.

Yeah the comment about the repaint was from Rick. Sorry, I should have put their names next to them.
I personally think its a really neat looking bird. Hopefully we'll find the carver!
Re: Unknown Carver/Goose Decoy
Funny thing is that Rick, most likely held this bird at one point or another.

You know what they say about getting old...LOL
Re: Unknown Carver/Goose Decoy
No, what do they say about getting old??? LOL.....I still think the bird is a recent repaint, and by recent I would say the 70s. I think I can even tell you who did it.
