Tech Minute:

As a Mapping Specialist I have to keep up with new technologies that make my life easier so I thought that everyone may benefit from something that happened to my yesterday. After trailering and cleaning up the boat after the hunt, I took some pictures of the day's spoils and emailed them from my smart phone to a buddy at work whom I also hunt with. He was able to use the photos which I sent and drop them into our Software (not to be named) which extracts the Coordinates of the photo. There are also ways to do this with Google Earth and some smartphones also create "pins" where each photo was taken from and places them in your navigating map in your smartphone. I received an email shortly after, as a joke, saying " I know where you were". He had been to this spot with me before so it was not too much of a secret but it made me think. With GPS Enabled Photo capability on most smartphones we take lots of pictures and post them up on social media sites so everyone can see what we have been doing. If you want to keep a secret spot a secret, whiting out landmarks in the back ground of the photo may not be enough to keep that "honey hole" all to yourself.

Russ, I know what you are saying. Before I retired from the Army some of the info "gathering" tech we had would spin your head off. It just make you wonder now with all the stuff posted on web sites how really smart do some folks think they are. The "tv" age tech and gadgets is here.

Just don't use your "smart phone" to post pics.....This type of location tagging has been around for a few years(at least 2).......Its was first shown to me by a girl who does title searchs on properties

Some video cameras now have GPS capabilities too. Off the Walmart shelf cameras may have capabilities and are very inexpensive too. Ye have been warned, hahahaha!
