My new sneakbox build *NEW PICS*
Here is my new project that I am working on. Bill Simonsen has patterns that he let me use for this 15X5 1/2 inch sneakbox. Today i cut it out of white cedar and shaped it. I then cut it in half and cut out the cockpit and hollowed out around it from underneath. My plan is to make a mini copy of my sneakbox. So as you can see I made it a displacement hull. Bill told me not to use that piese cuz of the knot in the cockpit area but I didn't listen. As you can see I didn't listen so I have to fill that in. Good thing I have epoxy and wood flour left from when I did my big sneakbox. I did a little work on the cockpit coaming but didn't put in in due to the knot and the divits I need to fill with thickened epoxy. When done I want it to look just like my sneakbox down to the oarlocks and decoy racks. I will post Pics as I do more work on it

Nice work!
That sneakbox model is sweeeet. If I had one like that I would carry it in my pocket in the off season just to remind me that the next duck season is only a little ways off. Haha.

Thats awesome Chris! I have been wanting to build sneakbox models for awhile. My dad made one when he was younger using strip balsa wood. Looked like a real cedar sneakbox, just smaller. Gotta make mini decoys too!

Re: My new sneakbox build *NEW PICS*
Thanks guys bill has one in his shop and I always pick it up when I go there. So I asked if I could use his paterns. And I went from there. When I started the coaming and cutting those tiny pieces of wood it got very tedious. I will go over there next week and work on it some more.
At some point I want to start carving my own gunning decoys. Bill said he would get me started.

I'd love to build one of these and replicate my own sneakbox. It looks like it's three pieces at this stage?

I know I want to replicate it to look just like my sneakbox. I even want to make a dodger for it and put grass on it. It is only 2 pieces I cut it in half to cut out the cockpit and hollow it out so its open under the decks.
I was waiting for someone to ask about the sneakbox that the model is sitting on. The cedar planks. Bill is redoing a vansant copy that someone made in the 70's

Hey chris mate I would,nt fancy being in a chopy Estuary with that all joking aside it will be a nice job when it is finished and it would look nice with a painting at the back of it showing the marsh and a few blocks spread out.

how's about some mini decoys to go with it?
hollowed, in the jersey tradition, of course!
Cute, might make a super hood ornament, if you can keep it from getting stolen!

Here are a few pics from today. I started on the oar locks and finished hollowing out the inside so I can put floor boards in. I also filled in the divits and the knot hole. so next time I can sand it all smooth and put in the cockpit trim and make the decoy racks and start to glue it all together
